Aussie up on better than expected retail sales

Retail sales in Australia advanced a seasonally adjusted 0.5 percent on month in October, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said on Friday. The total sales came at A$25.616 billion.

The figure is above expectations for a 0.3 percent increase following an additional 0.6 percent gain in September.

The largest increases came from food retailing (0.6 percent), household goods retailing (0.7 percent), other retailing (0.8 percent) and cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services (0.4 percent).

AUDUSD trades around the 0.7428 mark, up 0.18%, while USDJPY is down by 0.27% to 113.71 while In late-morning trades, the benchmark S&P/ASX 200 Index declines 18 points or 0.32 percent to 5,482.40.
