Non Farm Payrolls misses expectation by a big margin

The US economy added 148,000 jobs in December. That's shy of the 185K expected. November's 228,000 jobs gain was revised up to 252,000.

Unemployment rate steady at 4.1% and increase in average earnings at 0.3% also stable.

The annual rate of hourly average earnings held at 2.5% as inflation risks are still not igniting their way into the real economy.

The S&P 500 index up minutes after the news release at 2733. QQQ +0.6% and SPY +0.35%.

EURUSD and USDJPY steady a while later but gold spiked above $1320/oz.

Benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury bond yields fell 2.6 basis point to 2.44% while the dollar index, which benchmarks the greenback against a basket of six global currencies, eased back below 92 to the near 3 months low.
